Safflower

The safflower (latin name: Carthamus tinctorius) is a herbaceous plant of the Asteraceae family. The cultivation of this plant is limited. About only 600 thousand tons are grown in the world. The largest producer is Kazakhstan, where the climate is optimal for the cultivation of the safflower plant. The safflower oil is usually used as a substitute for sunflower oil. It may be applied in the production of margarine, dyes, and even medicine.
